ARGENTINA: Earlier this month, Argentinian filmmaker Rodolfo Moro and his partner, computer technician Marcos Duszczak, released a compelling YouTube video called “Why We Need” that calls on the governments of the world to pass laws protecting LGBT people and families.
The video dramatizes a story that LGBT people in many countries are all too familiar with. Viewers meet a family of two moms and their son. One of the women suffers a major medical emergency and is taken to the hospital. Her partner’s biological family is admitted into the hospital room, while she is barred from entering and watches helplessly from the hallway as her partner’s mother tells the doctor to take her off life support. Later, the mother and two police officers visit the couple’s home and take the child away.
